Meet Beach Creatures All Summer Long!

Drop in at Joppa Flats BEFORE the beach, AFTER the beach, or INSTEAD of the beach! What is that spiky thing I almost stepped on? How do starfish – or is it sea stars – eat? Are those baby fish, or is that as big as they get? You have the questions, we have the answers – and the animals – and the touch tanks!

What will be offered? Supervised handling and interpretation of LIVE beach creatures from Plum Island, a fun take-home craft, a chance to touch, discover, learn, and explore with a daily Touch Cart special and meet our wonderful Young Naturalists and Education Volunteers!

Any other creatures? We could have live caterpillars, insects, and special temporary summer guests such as painted turtles, tadpoles, and more!

*Note: The tank will be a permanent feature in our lobby all summer long. On days that we have a family program or public event scheduled, the tank will be available for viewing but not for touching creatures. Known dates the touch tank will not be available are Saturdays: 7/9, 7/23,8/6, and 8/20. Other dates may be added.
