Marine Science Center Open House & Beach Cleanup

N.U. Marine Science Center Open House offers educational fun for the family!

All are invited to the Northeastern University Marine Science Center annual Open House! You'll learn from researchers about marine habitats, meet some of creatures living there, explore the habitat in real time, and have a chance to help keep the marine habitat free from debris!  Bring the kids and teach them by example how to be a good steward of the natural world that surrounds us all.

Harvest Festival at Smolak Farms!

Rides, crafts, food and fun are all part of Smolak Farms' Harvest Festival!

This weekend, Johnny Appleseed returns to Smolak Farms to share his legendary tale and pose for photos in the orchards while helping children spread their very own apple seeds! Families are invited into the Smolak Orchard’s for a weekend of exciting activities.

Meet the Chickens!

Appleton Farms produces their own eggs with pasture raised chickens

We've all eaten eggs from the supermarket, but what about straight from a farm? At this program, you'll learn about Appleton Farms' pasture-raised laying chickens. You'll get to see our chicken "tractor" and learn how use pasture rotation to produce our delicious, farm-fresh eggs. They're not like anything you'll find at the supermarket!

Kid's Festival at Smolak Farms!

Rides, crafts, food and fun are all part of Smolak Farms' Kid Festival!

Come to the Farm and enjoy the country!  While you are here (and after you pick your apples) enjoy the many games and activities that will be on hand for the kids (young and old).  Arts and Crafts, Old Fashioned Sack Races, Scavenger Hunts (with prizes of course), Donut Decorating, Make Your Own Caramel Apple and so much more.

Greenbelt Tour of Green Meadows Farm

REI and ECGA host a tour of Green Meadow Farm in Hamilton!

Bring the family and join Essex County Greenbelt Association and REI for a "monthly walk" exploring the protected growing fields of Green Meadows Farm and MORE! Learn about the farm's history, organic growing practices, animal families and commitment to land conservation from Farm Manager Andrew Rogers. REI will provide family adventure journals to kids (human) and water bottles and coupons to adults.

Smolak Farms Apple & Children's Festival

There's all kinds of fun going on at Smolak Farm's Apple Festival!

Come to the Orchard and meet Johnny Appleseed!  Yes, he will be telling his story and spreading apple seeds!  (We think he will even pose for a picture or two!)  In addition to meeting Johnny Appleseed, all things apple will be in our Farm Stand and be sure to look for the “hidden apples” around the orchard and farm which will carry special coupons! Pick your own apples to take home!

Snakes of New England at Sawyer Free

Come to Sawyer Free Library's presentation of 'Snakes of New England and the World' to learn all about the habitat and lives of snakes from New England and around the world from Rick Roth, Executive Director of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team. Live local and exotic animals will be presented, and those who attend will have the opportunity to see these creatures close up!

The 2011 Walk for Animals is a fun way to raise money for the MSPCA
